GRAPHICAL CONTROL SYSTEM SIMPLIFIES OPERATION OF SPRUE PICKERS
AND SINGLE AXIS SERVO ROBOTS

The Wittmann SA7 control system with large LCD display and easily accessible buttons simplifies operation of sprue pickers and single axis robots for maximum uptime.

August 7, 2006

The newly developed WITTMANN SA7 microprocessor control system has been designed to maximize performance of its entire line of W 702 sprue pickers as well as their W 710 single-axis servo driven pneumatic linear robots. Unlike other controllers that incorporate simple LED or 7-segment displays, the LCD display used on the SA7 offers maximum functionality because of the significantly increased amount of information it can display and the added flexibility of the freely programmable controls.

The new WITTMANN SA7 control system offers many incremental improvements over the previous C61 control including a large graphical screen for better display of data, bigger teach program sizes that control up to 8 pneumatic axes and 32 vacuum and gripper circuits and 128 peripheral inputs. From a programming standpoint, an increased number of labels and counters is supported as well as one palletizing routine per teach program. The high-performance SA7 control system has been designed to optimize the performance/cost ratio and therefore, offers excellent functionality at a low price.

The rugged teach pendant for the SA7 control system has been designed to precisely emulate the key arrangement of the Wittmann R6.2 high-end robot control system for added operator familiarity and is equipped with a 5” LCD graphical screen capable of displaying graphics and all international character sets. The overall pendant dimensions measure 9.3 in. wide x 7.6 in. high x 1.4 in. thick (236 mm wide x 192 high mm x 36 mm thick). The SA7 also allows WITTMANN to cover its entire range of robots with only two versions of control systems ensuring immediate familiarity by users for maximum uptime with very little if any training costs.

Simple setup of the unit is achieved with four standard program sequences which cover all regular applications. For individual programming sequences, the proven Teach-In method from Wittmann can be used. With the help of timers, jumps, counters and numerous other programming commands an arbitrary sequence can be programmed. Up to 50 additional individual user programs can be developed and stored to essentially cover virtually any application.

The most common languages including English, Spanish, Chinese, etc. are standard on the control and can be selected and exchanged from a long list of entries during operation.  This on-line language support allows operators to pick the language they are most familiar with at the touch of a button and simply change languages.
